Sometimes it’s refreshing to not have any plans. To have a whole day open for whatever comes your way! However… it’s very hard to live every day like that. Most of us are driven by deadlines, points of necessity, and feelings of accomplishment. That is why we make to-do lists and schedules. Most of us get more done if we know what we are doing. As a general rule of thumb we do well with listing tasks for work, or getting the kids ready for the day, and maybe even our own daily routines as far as normal housework goes. But how are you doing on the road to your own wellness? Do you have a plan and goals for feeling better, more at peace, or less exhausted? Do you have any direction for having more positive relationships or a deeper connection with your partner?
Here’s the funny thing about life. We get so caught up in helping everyone else achieve their goals that we forget about achieving our own. We forget to even set our own personal goals. I have used the Passion Planner for almost 2 years now (no affiliation, just love it). The planner starts out with having you set your goals for 3 months, 1 year, 3 years, and your lifetime. Not just work goals, not just “I’ll get that junk drawer organized someday” but true life goals. What do you want to accomplish with your time here on earth? It is a great way to reflect on the legacy you want to leave behind.
How often do you hear it said, “these years go fast, enjoy them”? There is so much truth to that, not just in the idea of letting life pass you by, but also in the idea of getting to 30 then 40 then 50 then 60 and thinking to yourself, “I wanted to be at a different place in life by now.” Time passes and we just go through the motions, unless we have a plan.
You can tell me that you want to run a marathon, and I would support that. But… if you told me you were going to run a marathon tomorrow, without any prior training, I would not. That wouldn’t be safe for your well-being. You can dream all the dreams, but you must plan your life in such a way that you can accomplish them too. You must train for a marathon and many many people out there will guide you through that training. You must train to accomplish your life goals too. Maybe you have a goal to eat more vegetables. Great! But that goal will remain, just a goal, until you have a plan to make it happen. Maybe you have a goal to build a stronger relationship with your partner. Awesome! But that goal will remain, just a goal, until you have a plan to make it happen. Maybe you want to find your peace and be happier. Love that! But that goal will remain, just a goal, until you have a plan to make it happen.
So now, I have two hard questions for you. What is the goal (or goals) that you are working towards? How do you plan to accomplish those goals?
I’d love to hear it. Shoot me an email or comment below with the goals you’re striving for today.
