Be Open to New Things

Feb 23, 2022

I’m going to let you in on a little secret about how you become the best version of yourself with the least amount of resistance.

You allow yourself to learn new things, accept new truths, and change your behaviors.

So many of my clients come to me ready for their life to look different. Ready to “stop feeling like this” or saying, “something’s gotta give.” I love when I hear things like that because, despite their misery, I know they are in a place where they are truly ready to make some changes.

It is easier said than done though, isn’t it? When we have lived with specific thought patterns or behaviors for many years, it is difficult to un-do them overnight. Especially with that little voice in the back of your head talking you out of it.

Maybe it says things like,

“I have done this for xx years and it’s been fine.”

“That’s not going to work with my lifestyle”

“I’ve always made fun of the people who did x,y,z. I can’t start that now.”

“I’m not that much of a hippy or a granola”

“This is hard”

"I can't do this"

"It will never work"

Or any other combination of similar thought patterns. All of these are a form of resistance coming mostly from the ego. Your brain likes to believe it is always right so any time you challenge it with a new idea, there’s a little discomfort. That’s normal, but that doesn’t mean you have to run away from the discomfort. Instead, you expect that discomfort and allow yourself to learn new patterns anyway. Just like breaking in new shoes or the soreness that comes the day after a good workout. You know it will be uncomfortable, but that doesn’t stop you.

One of our biggest challenges to becoming better versions of ourselves is being so stubborn that we do not allow new patterns, new thought processes, or new ideas into our lives. You know what they say, if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got. When you’ve gotten to the place where you’re looking for ways to “stop feeling like this,” it certainly does not serve you to live your life in the same way and expect it to feel different.

Remember there is no judgment here. It’s not about feeling shameful for the patterns that currently exist in your life. In fact, some of them might have really served you in a different stage of your life. As you change and your circumstances change, we can stand to reason that the way you live your life will need to change to keep up too. I’m sure your wardrobe has adjusted to accommodate each stage of life and you are likely carrying different responsibilities now than you were 10 years ago too. All of that means your self-care, your inner dialogue, and the way you connect to your highest and best energy must all change too.

I know change is hard, but when you can open your heart and mind to the idea that it is no different than the changing of the seasons, you’ll find your growth and peace in the way you change too!

Is your heart and mind open to making some changes in how life looks for you? If you’re nodding along to this like, "um yes!! It’s time to make a change and I need some help doing it!" then let’s have a chat! I’d love to offer you some guidance and reassurance along the way. Find a time HERE that works for you.
