Who would you be?

Sep 01, 2021

Who would you be if you weren’t burnt out and tired and exhausted all the time? If you had the energy to get on the floor and play with your kids? What would it look like if you weren’t exhausted? Or if the smallest thing didn’t set you off? If you had the energy and the desire to interact with your partner for more than just the, “how was your day?” “good, how was yours?” type of small talk? What kind of mom would you be if your stress didn’t rule you’re every waking thought? What kind of wife would you be if anger and frustration were not the go-to emotions?

Can you imagine a life where peace is your default setting instead of frustration?

Imagine a life where instead of feeling like everything is your responsibility, you know exactly which tasks are yours and exactly which ones are a priority today. Imagine a life where you get to live in such a way that you do the things that make your heart happy routinely and not just “when I have time.”

Here’s the reality sweet girl. You can do those things. You can live that life. You can make those decisions right now. And you can do all of those things without abandoning your loved ones. In fact, I’d even wager that I doing that your loved ones will get a better version of you.

Why? Well think about it, how many of your daily actions stem from these thoughts: I’m tired. I don’t have time for this. It is all up to me. You annoy me. I don’t have it in me to deal with this right now…

As much as we would like to believe that is not where our actions stem from, but if you really think about it, I bet it is quite often.

I’m not here to judge you. I’m not here to look down upon you. I’m here to help you be aware of how much of your life is affected by stress and anxiety. How much of your life is affected by all the weight that is on your shoulders. How much of YOU you’re holding back because you don’t have the time or the energy, or because you’re trying to be all things to all people.

Now let me be clear, you cannot be all things to all people and I don’t want you to try. But I do want you to be all of yourself every day. I know that you can do that. I know that you can become that person. I also know you cannot do it alone. I also know that society has taught us that we should have the perfect job and the perfect body and the perfect friends and the perfect relationship... the perfect home, the perfect budget, the perfect car, and the perfect kids… I’m sorry if I burst your bubble here, but that is not realistic.

What your life looks like is totally up to you. Maybe you want to be the wife who cooks supper every night and enjoys every second of it. Maybe you want to be the mom that turns every situation into a teaching moment instead of berating her kids. Maybe you want to be the life of the party when you get together with your friends. Maybe you want to have a couple of hobbies that you spend time with each week. Maybe you want to have meaningful conversations with your husband routinely instead of just sitting on the couch staring at the TV screen. Maybe it’s all of these things or none of these things. That is the beauty of life. You get to decide what that looks like.

Can you imagine that life? One where you’re happy, full of energy, and enjoying life more than you’re dreading life?
