I am...

Do you ever talk to yourself? We always joke that talking to yourself isn't a problem, it's answering yourself that raises eyebrows! :) The reality though, is that most of us have an inner dialogue throughout the day. You may think to yourself, "I can't forget to get milk at the store" or "If I hear "Mom" one. more. time...." Often our brains are in a steady pattern of self-talk and that is how most of us process tasks throughout the day. This is great, because it means we can use this self-talk to begin to change our mood and raise our vibration. If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say vibration, check out this blog where I explain how energy affects our body.

We know that love, compassion, gratitude, and joy are emotions with the highest vibrations. Love is said to be the purest of all the emotions. The opposite of that then would be hate, resentment, and anger. So you see when you sit in a repetitive loop of "I am bad at this" or "I'm not enough" then your thought pattern begins to lower your own vibration, because these statements illicit those types of feelings. Like attracts like, so when the vibration of your thoughts is low, that causes you to reach for foods of a low vibration too, this is why people stress eat or "mend" broken hearts with rocky road ice cream. Resonating at this low vibration also causes other people that match this vibration to be drawn to you, misery loves company right? It causes the cells of your body to function at less than their best, leading to body aches, chronic pain, heartburn, infections or other ailments. None of these things are what we want! None of these help you to get any closer to your purest self.

But life is hard and we all suffer from the human condition. Society has told us that we have to meet certain standards in each area of our lives and we believe that to be true, so what happens if we don't meet those standards? First of all, to heck with what society says. You are enough. You are perfect in every way. You are exactly who God intended you to be. If you're not living your best life, then that is why you're here! To work towards becoming the best version of yourself, becoming Purely You! Secondly, we must take baby steps!

One of the best ways to get out of this self-doubt rut is to start with the thoughts you speak to yourself. Instead of, "you're such a failure," say, "look at what I learned." Instead of, "I wish I had _____," say, "I'm so grateful for what I have." Instead of "I am not ___," change it to, "I am ____." I am is one of the most powerful statements at our disposal. I am strong. I am happy. I am loved. I am grateful. I am compassionate. I am calm. I am powerful. I am whole. Can you feel the power in these statements? If you can stop that negative self-talk and replace it with phrases like this, you will improve your vibration, and thus your mood. One of my favorite ways to do this is with "I am Meditations." This is a quick breath-work type of exercise that helps the subconscious shift your conscious thoughts and raise your vibration. On an inhale you say the words to yourself "I am" and on an exhale the thing you desire in that moment. For example, when I am working as a nurse, there are times it is hard to show compassion for people who make poor choices. So I breathe in-I am- and breathe out-Compassionate-. I repeat this for at least 5 breaths. Sometimes there is benefit in a different word for each breath. I am: compassionate, patient, grounded, grateful, happy. It's quick and easy and totally something you can do walking down the hall at work, or sitting at your desk, without anyone knowing the wiser.

Another great way to get out of that rut is to express gratitude. Finding things to be grateful for in every moment will absolutely change your life. Maybe the weather isn't ideal, but you are capable of going out in it. Not everyone is physically able to walk outside, not everyone can breathe in the cold, not everyone has enough feeling left to notice if it is cold-be grateful that you can. Maybe this isn't the best meal you have ever prepared, but you have enough groceries to try again tomorrow. Some people do not have food in their cupboards, or a way to cook the little food they do have. Maybe your kids are driving you nuts, but how many people are praying to be blessed with children? When you shift your perspective and are able to find the small glimpses of hope and gratitude you immediately change the frequency in which your body resonates-isn't that just amazing!

Finally, share the love! Expressing love for others is another great way to raise that vibration and change your mood. Buy a coffee for someone. Offer a compliment to a passerby. Hold the door for the person behind you. Reach out to a friend, just to say hello. It doesn't have to be a grandiose gesture, the little things are what makes life big. Not only do you feel better after offering this nice gesture to someone, but then their mood is instantly lifted too, raising the vibration for both of you. Imagine what could happen if we all paid it forward in some way every day?!

Today I hope you know, you are enough. You are beautiful. You are loved.

May nothing less than love and light enter your space!
