Who is on your Wellness Team?

Jun 03, 2020

Do you have a TEAM of people helping you to be your best self? Not just the receptionist, nurse, and doctor at your OB/GYN office, but a group of people who are working with every facet of your body, mind, and soul to help you heal, grow, and become the best version of yourself you can be? You are a multifaceted human, which means you need a multifaceted group of individuals caring for you. Think about your group of friends. Do you have a friend you call when you need to talk about parenting and a different one when you need to discuss your faith, and maybe a third one to talk about your work drama? The reason you call on different individuals for different problems is that you need their particular version of expertise to get you through that moment.

You need a team of practitioners to get you through each ailment as well. You need a multitude of modalities in your space to keep you at your absolute best.

Keep your primary care provider visits. Get your annual check-ups, your mammograms, and any other preventive exams that may be necessary for you.  But also...

Find a Naturopathic Doctor (ND). These providers have the same amount of education as your regular MD, but their education is rooted in a more holistic approach. They tend to be aware of the whole body instead of the specialty approach that western medicine doctors are taught.  Generally, they will treat the cause, not just the symptom, and the change in approach helps you to truly heal from the inside out.

Get yourself a Massage Therapist and a Chiropractor. See them on the same day. Massage first, then get adjusted. According to the American Massage Therapy Association the benefits of massage can include: stress relief, post-op pain relief, anxiety relief, management of low-back, tension headaches, osteoarthritis, and/or fibromyalgia pain, muscle tension reduction, balance improvement, better sleep, exercise performance enhancement, lower blood pressure, and of course, increased relaxation! According to healthsourcechiro.com Chiropractic care can reduce pain, improve joint mobility, decrease joint and tissue degeneration, decrease inflammation, improve circulation, improve nerve system function, strengthen the immune system, increase sleep, improve athletic performance, improve each organ system function and can be used during pregnancy, in infants and children!

Look into acupuncture. Acupuncture is beneficial for the following conditions, and so much more: anxiety, depression, nervousness, IBS, menstrual pain, infertility, migraines, joint and muscle pain, allergies, and addictions. Acupuncture is a gentle technique using very fine needles in specific points of the body to help correct the flow of energy. It is a relaxing process, even for those scared of needles.

Find someone who does Biofeedback. Biofeedback sessions are a way to help you learn different ways to control your body. You are connected to sensors and a machine that offers information and guidance around your body’s functionality. With this information you can learn how to control your body in such a way that allows relief of your symptoms. According to Mayo Clinic, It can aide in anxiety, stress, asthma, ADHD, pain, constipation, incontinence, high blood pressure, tinnitus, TMJ, and more.

Reflexology is another modality to look into. Reflexology is an ancient practice that aids in stress relief, pain, organ function, headaches, PMS, and even diabetes. It is much like a massage, however, focused on just the foot and/or hand.

Energy Healing is of course one of my favorite modalities. The energy healing umbrella covers a multitude of modalities in itself. I encourage you to work with many different healers allowing each to serve you in that moment. My Energy Healing Training began in Reiki. According to healthline.com Reiki can be beneficial for improving your mood, treating headaches, tension, insomnia, improve your quality of life, and aide in relieving pain, anxiety, and fatigue. I talk in more depth about energy in the body HERE

Nutrition is also vital to your well-being and you may want to find a nutrition coach to aide in your wellness. Exercise and body movement is vital to your wellness too. You may also include healing crystals, essential oils, meditation, and prayer to your routines.

The point is there are so many different ways you can approach your wellness. There is not one ‘end-all-be-all' fix to your ailments. It takes a combination of all of these things to reach your best self. You may find that you need a particular treatment based on the current circumstances of your life. Just like you have that friend for work stress and one for parenting, you may find that you need a certain practitioner for each facet of your life. That is why you need a team of people guiding you on this journey. The important part is that you continue to work towards finding Purely You and the practitioners you chose are helping you along the way!
