Keeping up with the Jones's

Keeping up with the Jones's
5:06

Theodore Roosevelt said, “comparison is the thief of all joy.” Isn’t that the truth. It’s been a problem in our society forever. Even when life was a little more slow-paced before the internet and social media. Now, we not only “have to keep up with the Jones’s” in our community, but with the “Jones’s” in your Mom’s, your best friend’s, your college roommate’s, and that Influencer on Instagram too. We have so much access to other people’s lives now, but often we forget that what we see is only just a portion of their life. I was listening to a podcast the other day and the discussion was about this exact thing. One question stuck out to me though. “Do you want to do what it takes to have her life?” If you look at the 40-year-old mom who has a six-pack and you envy her, you have to also ask yourself if you are willing to put in the work to make that happen. Are you willing to give up one...

Are You Listening?

Are You Listening?
6:29

Have you ever looked at your husband, or maybe your kids and asked, “are you even listening?” Usually, it stems from frustration. An important conversation should be taking place, but the person you are talking to is not actively listening. We’ve all been there. My question for you is this, are you listening to your own self?

Our bodies send signals to our brains all day long! The ones we recognize early in life are hunger, thirst, and the urge to breathe. As we grow a little, we learn what being nervous feels like. We learn excitement. We learn the difference between happy and sad. We learn our body’s cues for needing to use the bathroom or needing to go to sleep. We learn to be careful around hot pans. Inside our body is telling our brain to release certain chemicals when we’re ready for sleep, and different ones when we are ready to start the day. Our stomach tells our pancreas to release insulin. All-day long multiple signals are being...

Drink Your Water!

Drink Your Water!
6:41

It's no secret that our bodies need water to survive. We know that the average person could only survive for 3 days without water. That is 72 hours. We can make it about 3 weeks without food, proving that water needs to be a priority in our survival. Now, you're probably not sitting on a deserted island wondering if you'll survive until you're rescued, but I'd bet you've reached for a snack instead of a drink of water on multiple occasions. Our brains and bodies are funny that way. We tend to ignore the "thirsty signals" but almost always listen to the "hungry ones" and sometimes, if we are not mindful we end up eating when we should be grabbing some water! There are some foods with naturally occurring water in them, like pineapple, celery, and lettuce but that is no match for a good glass of water.

Your body is roughly 65% water, every single cell inside of you needs water to function. Did you know that being well hydrated can help with your temperature control, muscle aches,...

Stay Well!

Purely You Healing
Stay Well!
7:46

The goal of Purely You Healing is always true wellness. Not just symptom management, but healing from the inside out and preventing further injury. To be your Purest Self, you not only have to be the truest version of you mentally and spiritually, but physically too. The three are intertwined and without one, you cannot have the other. I often see your Mind, Body, and Soul depicted like 3 strand braid. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "A three-strand cord is not easily broken," this actually comes from the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible with a slightly different meaning, but I like the image the concept brings us. The idea that to be whole and strong, you must be well in your body, mind, and spirit is powerful.

Did you know that people who suffer from depression are more likely to suffer from physical ailments as well? Or that happiness can boost your immune system? Or that multiple studies have shown people with a faith are happier than those without a faith practice? It...

I am...

Do you ever talk to yourself? We always joke that talking to yourself isn't a problem, it's answering yourself that raises eyebrows! :) The reality though, is that most of us have an inner dialogue throughout the day. You may think to yourself, "I can't forget to get milk at the store" or "If I hear "Mom" one. more. time...." Often our brains are in a steady pattern of self-talk and that is how most of us process tasks throughout the day. This is great, because it means we can use this self-talk to begin to change our mood and raise our vibration. If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say vibration, check out this blog where I explain how energy affects our body.

We know that love, compassion, gratitude, and joy are emotions with the highest vibrations. Love is said to be the purest of all the emotions. The opposite of that then would be hate, resentment, and anger. So you see when you sit in a repetitive loop of "I am bad at this" or "I'm not enough" then your...

Intuition Vs. Ego

Intuition Vs. Ego

Are you an NCIS fan? Gibbs is known for his "gut." That instinct he uses to make impossible judgment calls that always lead to the perfect outcome. I mean yes, this is a TV show we are talking about, but trusting your gut is a real thing! If you're not an NCIS fan maybe you've heard the phrase, "a mother's intuition." Or maybe you've been in a situation where you got a feeling deep in the pit of your stomach that told you something wasn't quite right. Each of these is talking about the same thing. Your intuition aka your divine guidance. We are all born with the ability to be aware of that guidance. As babies, it is this intuition that guides us to take our first breath, how to nurse, and how to trust when we are safe and unsafe. New parents, were you ever told that if you are calm your baby will be calm? That is in part because they can intuitively sense the different vibrations between their seemingly safe world and your stressed-out "unsafe" one. Children use their intuition when...

Protect Your Space

Do you ever feel like the people you're around just flat out suck the life out of you? After even just a few minutes around that person, you are exhausted, worn out, and maybe even in a bad mood?

Maybe you notice it more when you spend time around someone who is crabby, and it makes you crabby. They say misery loves company and it sure seems to pull you in.

Both of these instances are examples of people changing your vibration. They either take your power and steal your light, leaving your cup empty OR you lower your vibration to match theirs. Neither of which feels very good. It is REALLY a bummer when you were in a great mood that morning, or you want to enjoy your kid's soccer game but that Mom is just taking all the fun out of it for you. Listen, someone else's rain doesn't have to fall on your parade. Now, I know you don't go out asking for such things to happen, but they seem to anyway. So HOW ON EARTH do you prevent this?!

First and foremost, you must...

Let it all go...

Have you ever felt like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Like you just need a breather, a break, a minute to be? Maybe you're the mom who has cried in the shower or at the kitchen sink, because that weight has to be released somehow. Most women will tell me, "there's not time." There's too much to get done to take a vacation or to even take a "day off." And that may be true. BUT... you don't necessarily need a vacation to release some of these burdens. You don't need a day off (although I don't discourage a good vaca, or stay-cation once in awhile), what you need is to learn how to carry the burdens that are only yours and more importantly, release the ones that are not.

Two weeks ago we talked about recognizing the burdens that are not yours and leaving them where they are. Today, we're going to dive into how to release the ones you're already carrying. Often times, we think it is our responsibility to carry the weight of the world. Someone we love is hurting, so...

What is Energy?

What is Energy?
4:22

Did you know your body has an energy system, just like it has a skeletal system and circulatory system? Physics has proved that every living thing is comprised of energy. Ancient Japanese and Chinese medicines have known this for thousands of years, but we are just coming around to it in modern cultures. To break it down simply, everything on our planet is comprised of atoms. Those atoms vibrate at specific frequencies and that is what creates the density of each item. Water is unique, but a great example of the differences. When water (H2O) is steam, those atoms are vibrating quickly; when it is ice, they vibrate slowly; as a liquid, they vibrate somewhere in the middle. Foods that serve your body have higher vibrations than those that don't, for example, an organic apple would have a high frequency, where Twinkies would have a low one. Emotions work the same way. The vibration of joy, happiness, and gratitude is very high, whereas the vibrations of anger, grief, and resentment are...

Is it your burden to bear?

Is it your burden to bear?

I see you out there, thinking your superwoman. Telling yourself you can do it all. You WILL do it all. "No" is not a word in your vocabulary. Of course, neither is sleep, but hey you'll have those 4 dozen cookies to the school bake sale tomorrow. I can pick you out of the crowd, because that used to be me.

We have created a society that prides itself on busyness. We have trapped ourselves in the belief that to be busy is to be successful, that to be busy is where we find our happiness. That by saying no and honoring our time, we are somehow failing. I used to take it ALL on. Do it all. I was tough enough to handle it. I was able to survive. I was strong... and I was miserable. I had given every ounce of myself to please those around me and told myself it was all from a place of service and love. Now, that's not entirely wrong, but what my young self failed to realize is that by never saying no, I was exhausting all my resources. I wasn't getting enough sleep, or eating right or...
